NORTH PACIFIC ADVENTURES’

TECHNIQUES FOR LINGCOD FISHING

Fishing lingcod in BC can be a thrilling and rewarding experience. Lingcod fishing season BC typically runs from mid-May to mid-October, with the best months being July and August. Here are some things to consider when lingcod fishing on Vancouver Island or anywhere along the BC coast:

  1. Use heavy tackle and sinkers to reach depths of up to 200 feet

  2. Use jigs with a variety of colours and sizes. A heavier weight is often needed when fishing deeper waters.

  3. The fish are attracted by the movement of the jig as well as scents like squid, shrimp, and sardines.

  4. Once the jig is within range of the lingcod, give it a few short jerks before pausing for a moment. The paused jig is often when the fish will take the bait. Reeling in the fish quickly and firmly is key to ensuring a successful catch.

  5. Lingcod are usually found near rocky outcroppings along drop-offs and ledges, so finding a good spot is essential for success.
